Beginner does not mean one wing for every future goal

A first wing should help you build clean launches, active piloting habits, landing judgment, and confidence. If your goal is cross-country performance, acro, or strong thermic flying, that is a progression path, not a reason to skip the first-wing stage. Learning on a beginner wing is like learning to drive in a learner car, not a race car: the learner car is predictable and forgiving while you master steering, braking, judging distances, and building confidence. Buy the calm wing now, then upgrade after more flights and instructor feedback.

Calculate all-up weight before asking for a size

All-up weight is the weight of the complete flying system in the air, not just the pilot. Add body weight, clothes, shoes, harness, reserve, helmet, instruments, backpack or ballast if carried, water, and anything else that flies with you. Then compare that number with the certified and recommended weight range for the exact wing size.

Avoid using downsizing as a shortcut to speed. Existing wing-loading guidance emphasizes choosing a wing where you are well placed in the range and where the model suits the flying environment. If you are near an edge of the range, ask a dealer and instructor before buying.
